Normandie
Besetzung (Gettysburg,
PA)
After the success of last
year's full gear march, Der Erste Zug once again held a bicycle &
foot march to the Eisenhower National Historic Site's WWII Weekend
event. This
time, it was longer!
At this event, we were
portraying the Nr.
5 Kompanie, Gren. Regt. 915 / 352nd Infanterie Division
in Normandie prior to the Allied Invasion of France. Our impression was
based on a detachment of the GR 915 during training maneuvers.
We camped off site at another location on
Friday where we issued rations. Saturday morning we departed on a 4
mile march to the event site at the Eisenhower Farm (WWII Living History
Weekend). Those with period European bicycles rode them, those without
were on foot. The entire march was done in full gear.
Upon
arriving at the main site, we put up an equipment display (laid out so
as not to look like a modern set-up), drilled, ate period rations,
etc... All the activities were of course based on public interaction &
education.
